StoryShape is an in-development beta from Iron Candle Interactive. It is still being improved, and bugs, interruptions or changes may affect your work.
Test the beta with a copy of your project first. Do not use StoryShape as the only copy of work you cannot afford to lose. Check that a backup can be reopened before relying on it.
The software license
StoryShape’s open-source software is licensed under Apache License 2.0. That license controls your rights to use, modify and redistribute the software. These website and beta-use notices do not reduce the rights granted by the license. Your manuscripts, characters, worlds and other original content remain yours; using the app does not transfer ownership to us.
Beta risks and backups
Features, project formats and compatibility may change during development. Autosave, Undo and built-in recovery tools are useful safeguards, but they are not a guarantee that work cannot be lost. You are responsible for keeping independent backups and checking exports before sharing or submitting them.
No warranty
To the extent permitted by applicable law, the beta is provided as available, without a promise of uninterrupted operation, error-free results, fitness for a particular purpose or preservation of every file. The software’s warranty disclaimer is set out in section 7 of Apache License 2.0.
Limits on liability
To the extent permitted by applicable law, Iron Candle Interactive and contributors are not liable for loss of manuscripts, project data, lost profits or other damages arising from use of, or inability to use, StoryShape. The software’s limitation of liability is set out in section 8 of Apache License 2.0. Nothing in this notice excludes liability or legal rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Optional financial support
Contributions support development and do not buy a paid Mac feature, guaranteed support response, delivery deadline or ownership stake. Payment details shown on Stripe’s checkout apply to the contribution you choose. Contact support@ironcandleinteractive.com about a contribution or payment problem.
Platforms and availability
The Mac app is free. The signed DMG, Mac App Store version and iPadOS version are in development and are not currently available. The Mac source beta can be compiled from the public GitHub repository. No release date is promised. Pricing and any platform-specific purchase terms will be published when it is available on the App Store.
